Veliko Tărnovo & Arbanasi

Friday, April 12th

After breakfast, we boarded buses for a full-day excursion to Bulgaria’s former capital, Veliko Tarnovo and Arbanasi.

Our first stop was at the Tsaravets Hill and the ruins of the royal castle.

Then it was on to Arbanasi for lunch in a local restaurant with another folklore show......

The peacock wouldn't strut his stuff for us...

We then had a tour of the Nativity Church with its intricate floor-to-ceiling murals and icons. Interesting in that the outside of the building was very plain and half built under ground.

No pictures were allowed inside. It was really beautiful.

Then it was back to the boat......I guess there wasn't much to see in this area. We were on the buses for over 2 hours each way...guess you can gather that this wasn't one of my favorite stops!!!!
