Giurgiu & Bucharest

Saturday, April 13th

This morning we said goodbye to our home for the last 3 weeks...we disembarked in Giurgiu and traveled by bus to Bucharest where we will stay for 3 nights. We had a tour of the highlights of the city and lunch before we checked in to our hotel, the Radisson Blu.

The Arch of Triumph...architectural monument dedicated to the proclamation of the Union after the success of the Romanian army in the First World War.

Casa Presei Libere...The House of Free Press. Built in only five years, "Casa Scanteil" was intended for the publication of communist state media. After the 1989 events has been known as the House of Free Press as it has sheltered the first free newspapers in Romania.

Palatul Victoriei...Victoria Palace housed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Council of Ministers during the communist period and became, in 1990, the head office of the first government of post communist Romania.

Complexul Patriarhal Bucuresti. The Patriarchal Cathedral and Palace as the home of the head of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The Palace of Parliament....the second largest building in the world. Only the Pentagon is bigger.

We decided that a photo stop was enough....we could have toured the building but we were tired and decided we had enough for the day.
